Tots Get Busy; Cupcake Decorating!

MN Tot Spot: Como Zoo's Lil Explorer's Thursday '14

Yesterday was one of the coldest days ever! With the windshield it was about -25 degrees out so while I was carrying Noelle, pushing a double stroller, and being 36 weeks pregnant, running into Como Conservatory I thought to myself "This better be worth it. I am crazy." Well luckily it was totally worth it! The day before we had trekked out to Minneapolis for a kid event, and it was only so-so. Como Zoo and Conservatory's Lil' Explorers Thursday is so worth it. We've been here several times before but I have to say the Teddy Bear Picnic was the best one we've been to! The kids got to bring their teddy bears, do a bunch of bear related activities, listen to and interact with a bear story, and then we also walked around the conservatory and the rainforest.

At this table they had an activity with the book "Brown Bear, Brown Bear," which the kids all recognize and love. They read the book, matched the colors to the animals on the cards, then did a coloring page.

Story felt board of Goldilocks and the Three Bears!

We stopped in the interactive toddler room where Noelle hugged her friend the seal.

Here the kids had a little teddy bear picnic with their bears.

Sorting bears by color and size!

Dressing bears lacing activity!

Checking out the "rainforest" before story time!

Meeting some lizards!

Getting ready for story time!

This was super cute. The lady read "Bear Wants More" and had all the kids hold onto a slip of paper with a picture of a certain food on it. When the bear in the story eats a certain thing, the kids with that card get to go "fed" the bear. So cute and fun! The kids loved this!

Noelle feeding the bear some grass!

Meeting a big lizard!

Noelle really wanted to touch this snake!

More playing!

Working hard on a bear art project! What toddler doesn't love glue?

We LOVE Como Zoo and Conservatory and we definitely love Lil' Explorers Thursdays. It's always so perfectly run, planned, organized, and geared towards the young ones. Can't wait to go again! (We have plans to go in a couple weeks when the theme is "Under the Sea!")

MN Tot Spot: Midtown Global Market's Wee Wednesdays

Continuing with our massive streak of tot spot visits, we hit up Midtown Global Market's Wee Wednesday event this week. I had been looking forward to this for a long time but never ventured out because I find myself tending to stay in the suburbs more than going out to the city. However, one of my fears - parking, was no issue. They have a big ramp and with validation you get 2 hours free! The kids and I braved the (very, very) cold and made it there!

Getting there early, we had to kill some time with snacks!

We got there nice and early because I had no idea what it was going to be like there. Online it says they offer a variety of activities for kids 5 and under. They offer educational programming, bands, dancing, toddler cooking classes, and even visits from animals! I was pretty excited, never being there before, I didn't know what to expect.

Noelle snacking it out before the show.

I was a little bit disappointed because on the day we went the only thing going on was a band/dance party. I felt a little let down because on their site they make it sound like a big event with tons of things going on around the market. That wasn't the case! Also they say on their website that it goes from 10:30-1pm. Well, we stayed for the whole show and that only lasted for one hour! After that, we took not one, but two laps around the market in search for more Wee Wednesday fun, but there wasn't any! It shouldn't be called Wee WednesDAY if it's a Wee Hour, in my opinion.

That being said, the kids still had fun the hour that we were there. On the day we went the entertainment was a lady named DJ Kitty who put on a great kid's music show. She played a lot of the familiar songs, like Wheels on the Bus, Itsy Bitsy Spider, but with a funky twist.  There were TONS of kids there (far more than the picture above) and all the kids were dancing, jumping, and running around.

Noelle LOVED when DJ Kitty played "What does the fox say?" She was so giddy and excited!

I love spending my days with my princess.

Here the kids are scoping out the market...

Would we go again? Maybe. It's not exactly close to us (about a 30 minute drive), which is part of the problem. We would make it out there if the event that was being held was really cool (like a great puppet show, band, etc.) and we planned to have lunch there. I love the actual market itself. The food looks amazing, and there is so much variety. I'd maybe take Noelle again to see a band, then eat lunch there, but this isn't one of my top "Tot Spots." Kid friendly? Sure. But definitely not kid geared or oriented you would think.

Maternity Photo Sesh

Everyone who reads my blog has seen my amazing photographer, Amanda Rang's skills. She was the one who did the awesome job on our Mother/Daughter session back this past summer. Her work is so good - she's got such a great eye, and her editing is amazing. She really did an incredible job on my maternity pictures with this pregnancy! I wanted something completely different this time around, seeing that my first pregnancy I was very traditional when it came to the pictures. We took the usual pictures; mom and dad hugging, smiling, dad's hands on mom's belly, etc. I wanted to showcase pregnancy in a different way this time. I wanted to remember, since this may be my last pregnancy, that pregnancy is a beautiful, natural thing and a woman can be radiant during this time. I wanted these pictures to be special. Well, Amanda did all that and more. She not only made pregnancy look amazing, but she made me look much better than usual. Hah! (She even did my hair and makeup, and styled my shoot!) Thank you Amanda, for always putting in all your effort!
