After The Ultrasound

This isn't so much a reflection as it is a confession.

I cannot lie, after we found out that we were having another girl our reactions weren't exactly made of rainbows and unicorns.

The conversation went like this:
Ultrasound lady: You see this spot right here? (Points at empty space.)
Us: Yes.
Ultrasound lady: See how nothing is there? (Points out empty space again.) This means that it's a girl!
Me: laughed uncomfortably
Joey: Silence.

After we found out that we were having another baby, we had to get used to that idea. Once we were used to that idea, we started thinking of how cool it would be to have a boy to add to our family. We were mislead and hopeful since my pregnancy this time was nothing like my first pregnancy with Noelle. I was carrying different - lower and rounder, had different cravings, etc. and the baby had a MUCH lower heart rate than Noelle. Even though we tried not to, we got our hopes up for a baby boy. We even started to call him by a boy name, and had Noelle calling the baby that as well.

So naturally, when we found out we were having another GIRL, we had to get used to that idea too. It took us several days to get over our second shock.

I don't want to make us sound ungreatful, because we are. We are so, so blessed that this baby is healthy, and that this pregnancy is going well. All we can ask for is having a healthy, full term, baby. We know this, but it's still hard to deal with disappointment. Not that I won't LOVE this baby with all my heart, but I felt like I had already been here, done that. I already had my precious princess and was ready for a little boy to chase after. I had my baby girl, and was ready for my baby boy.

Now, almost 3 weeks later, I'm seeing things much differently. Life gives you what you need, what you were meant to have. Everything happens for a reason. My baby is my baby! And now? I am SO excited. We are going to have another sweet, beautiful, little girl to cuddle, love, kiss, and spoil!! I am so excited for Noelle to have a little sister to share her life with and Joey and I are going to have another chance to be parents to another princess.

I guess we were meant for more sugar and spice, and that's VERY nice! So excited. Roughly only 15-18 more weeks until we get to meet our second beautiful daughter.

Thanksgiving '13

We had a super fun Thanksgiving this year! We spent our morning watching the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade at Grandma Libby (Joey's maternal grandma)'s house, Skyping with my parents at lunch, and then we spent the rest of the day at Nik and Erin's house. Nik and Erin went all out hosting Thanksgiving dinner, with a carnival set up downstairs for the kids! They had tickets that the kids could win for playing various games, like a Ring Toss, Bucket Toss, Pin the Tail on the Donkey, etc. The kids then could redeem their tickets for prizes! We were impressed! One day, Nik and Erin are going to make awesome parents! ;) The day was fun as well as tasty. Everyone pitched in and we consumed an amazing Thanksgiving feast, and lots and lots of pie.

With all that being said, I would have to say the first and foremost thing that Joey and I are thankful for is our family. Our parents are generous, caring, wonderful parents and even better grandparents. Our brothers and sisters are always there to help us and be our friends. Our nieces and nephews are the funniest, brightest, kids around (and are the BEST cousins you could find). And our kid? Well, Noelle's hands down the joy of our life. We have lots to be thankful for, but family always comes first. We're very blessed!

Growing Sproutlet!

Noelle seems to have grown so rapidly that I haven't been able to keep up with it all! I feel like I had her yesterday, and then all of a sudden, bam, here she is, a full on toddler! It's fun, definitely, but so bittersweet. I miss my little baby! Of course that's why we've been blessed and in 4 months we will have another little baby...but I still miss my first baby.

Some BIG changes that have occurred since our little one turned two? Well, she has officially gone from her toddler bed to a real bed. She's currently sleeping on a twin mattress with no rails and she loves it. It's been 2.5 weeks and so far no problems. The first night we did it, it was mostly for fun/experiment. We were rearranging furniture to see if we could possibly fit both girls into the same bedroom - which we can. We put Noelle's twin mattress in a corner and asked her if she wanted to sleep on it. She said yes and jumped right into it! She played, jumped, and had a heck of a time climbing in and out for a couple hours. Bedtime came and we had no problems. We waited for the other shoe to drop because we couldn't believe how easy it was going, but we didn't have to - she loves it. She no longer cares about her old crib and refers to it as "baby's bed."

Another huge change in our house? Noelle is in her bed right now as I type this, without her pacifier. This will be the very first night that she sleeps without one, so I'm not sure what will happen! About a week and a half ago we decided enough was enough with the pacifier and started taking it away, only allowing her to have it at nap and bedtime. As long as she was distracted when we took it away there were no major problems. Of course, if I just pulled it from her mouth, there was A LOT of crying and screaming. Anyone who knows Noelle knows that we have (had?) a major paci problem in this house. Noelle almost ALWAYS has one and she asks for it whenever it's gone. She loves it and "needs" it for almost all transitions. In majority of her pictures you can see that she has one in her mouth.Tonight after we read 5,000 books I decided to just put her down without one. So far, so good. Fingers crossed!

My baby is growing up and it's amazing. Her vocabulary is extensive and she catches on to so much! She even tells Joey how to get home from my work. She seriously will tell him "turn here daddy" and point down the street that he's suppose to take. It blows us away. She also makes proclamations like "Well big girl," "I do it by myself," etc. She can count to 13 now, sing a large variety of songs, and tells us her preferences. She's rather picky about her music in the car, and the books we read.

Noelle also amazed us the other night by telling us 3 times before she had to go on the potty. We weren't sure if she was just saying it or not, but then we were shocked when she was right and did go potty! She has been going pee on the potty every day at least once for a while, but we aren't sure how to proceed with the potty training yet because some days she doesn't seem interested at all. For a while we knew she was physically ready, not mentally ready, so we halted our potty training but now that she is able to tell us before she has to go, we think she might be more ready. We will probably tackle this full on after we are done with the paci. Only one growing pain at a time! :)

Noelle is so, so fun. She cracks us up, and she is sweet as pie. We love her so, so much. She's growing up to be such a sweet, funny, little girl!!

Noelle's 2nd Birthday; Elmo Breakfast Bash!

Noelle's Birthday party went really well! We had a great turnout of close friends and family and Noelle had a blast! We held a pajama party breakfast on Saturday morning at the Shoreview Community Center and had a purple and pink Elmo theme to match Noelle's jammies!
